Today's Meet The Maker is the EPM's youngest stallholder ever!! At only 14 she is the very essence of the words 'emerging designer'. Bianca's maturity and passion for crafting is evident from the moment you meet her. I can guarantee we will see alot more of her in the years to come as she grows her wonderful business Bianca's Bluebird Shop. We are exciting to share her story with you all today...
Tell us about yourself and what you do at the EPM...
I am a 14 year old girl that lives on the Mornington Peninsula. I love jewellery, fashion and accessories. My friends would describe me as someone who is fun to be around, gets the giggles and super crafty. I think they're right. At the EPM I sell homemade jewellery that I make out of polymer clay, every peace is individual. I also make a few other items from upcycled things like knitted bowls, wooden block plant holders and some felted creations.
When did you know you first wanted to be creative?
Being a creative person is who I am. I remember when I was in kindergarten one of my friends and I had decided we would like to work in Vet shop, she was the vet and I would work out the front of the shop. I had the floorplan for the shop all mapped out, then later when I was in about grade one I decided to design my own lolly shop. I guess I've always just had a dream of having my own shop one day. My house has a studio out the back. It's a place where I can let my creative juices flow with all the amazing materials.
What inspires you to be creative?
I am inspired by things I see every day. I see shapes and colours in the world around me. I notice details in images and artwork from magazines. My brain is constantly thinking of new things to make and new designs. I have a big list of things I still want to make.
Describe your perfect day...
Wake up when I'm ready, have an amazing buffet breakfast with the family. Then go to the studio to make some jewellery, after this I would play with my dog Twinkle and then go shopping for a bit and spend the rest of the day and night at the beach with all my friends and family.
What is your best ever creative moment?
I got totally lost in making paintings for my room. I found it to be a really relaxing process. I used acrylics on poster paper. I loved blending and mixing the colours and it looks amazing.
Describe a lesson you learnt from creative failure...
I tried to make some polymer clay rings and they just kept breaking. I learnt that it was a design fault and that the clay is too weak to use the way I had hoped. I think they look good and I would still like to make the rings with the colour and same pattern but maybe with a different product.
What's the scariest movie you have ever seen?
I haven't ever really seen a scary movie but it's definitely on the to do list
What's your favourite childhood book?
A Visit to Fairyland by Jane E.Gerver I have really happy memories about this storybook, it starts off like this: Do you want to visit Fairyland? It's not too far away. You can get there on a moonbeam or a special magic sleigh. My parents still know this book off by heart as they had read it to me so often when I was little.
What's the best advice anyone ever gave you?
The best advice I have ever been given is from Emily of EMELDO Designs, she gave me a boost of confidence and to believe in myself. I feel really lucky that I have friends and family that support what I am doing.
What's your favourite tunes to get you in the creative mood?
I listen to all kinds of music, from the top of the charts to mellow and chill and indie rock. I think it depends on the mood I am in and the things I am making. ** A huge thanks Bianca for the wonderful insight into your creative journey so far!! We can't wait to follow your journey over the coming years! еКYou can find Bianca at the EPM tomorrow or you can connect with her below...
